Paskong Pinoy (Filipino Christmas)

Misa De Gallo
Christmas is in the air... They said that Philippines celebrates the longest Christmas season because once Ber months has arrived we can already feel it by decorating our home, and making some wish list for the upcoming Christmas.

We are very unique in celebrating the birthday of our savior Jesus Christ. We use to have "Simbang Gabi"  that is going to church between 3am to 5am. Outside the church we can" see a lot of vendors selling "Puto Bumbong", "Bibingka" (form of rice cake and its totally delicious) with matching hot coffee or hot chocolate. Simbang Gabi starts in the 16th of December and ends in the 24th.

Parol from Pampanga

Parol is a Philippine Christmas lantern. Pampanga is considered as Parol capital of the country. In fact, in a year 2002 in San Fernando City, Pampanga was awarded as the origin of the largest Christmas lantern in the world. The idea of Parol is from the story of three wise men who look at  the brightest star in the sky as a guide for them to find the new born baby Jesus.

They said that once we have parol in our house, the spirit of Jesus is there, like the brightest star was found above the manger where he was born.

Noche Buena

Noche buena is a part of Christmas tradition of every Filipino. We use to prepare a lot of food like lechon, ham, pancit, leche flan and more. This is also the time for family reunion or family get together. Time for gift giving where in the kids totally enjoy.

Not all of us can afford to have this kind of prosperous celebration. But it doesn't mean that we cannot celebrate Christmas without this delicious foods, the important thing is, as long as the whole family is there, that is enough to celebrate Christmas.

Kids singing a Christmas Carol

Christmas here in the Philippines is definitely for kids. Actually this is the time where they are expecting to receive some gifts from their ninong and ninang, (God Parents). Their favorite activity during this season is to sing Christmas Carols in front of different houses and the tenants will give them something in return. They also believe that Santa exist but as we grow old, we know that Santa is just an imagination, just a symbol of Christmas.

No matter how we celebrate Christmas, in a manner of prosperous or simple way, the important thing is we show the true meaning of it. Christmas means love, sharing and forgiving. Christmas means happiness because this is the time where our Christ the savior was born. Have a blessed Christmas to everyone. Feel free to visit our country and experience the "Paskong Pinoy". "Maligayang Pasko sa lahat".
